The nationally syndicated Tavis Smiley Show recently competed its “One Great Idea Tour.” For this series of programs, Mr. Smiley visited five cities across the US to “highlight individual cities that are finding solutions to some of the nation’s most difficult and intractable challenges, pointing the way for other cities to follow,” according to the show’s website.
Mr. Smiley chose to start his tour at Cleveland’s own ideastream to spotlight the innovative preschool initiatives in our community, including PRE4CLE. PRE4CLE’s Executive Director, Katie Kelly, was part of a panel that also included Cuyahoga County’s Invest in Children Director and Early Childhood Compact Executive Committee member Dr. Rebekah Dorman and PRE4CLE Provider and three-star rated family childcare home provider JoAnna Adams.
The hour-long show kicked off with a feature on a local parent whose daughters attend PRE4CLE Provider YWCA Early Learning Center and who has seen the benefits of high-quality preschool. The panel conversation followed and included discussions about the brain research supporting the importance of high-quality preschool, details about how Cleveland and Cuyahoga County have accomplished so much in early childhood, and examples of elements of high-quality programs. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to showcase our work on this national stage! You can watch the show in its entirety online at http://goo.gl/Euavm4.
