Provider Spotlight: Horizon Education Centers

Horizon Education Centers’ Executive Director Dave Smith says his centers focus on making sure kids are not only ready for school, but also well-rounded individuals. Horizon Education Centers are located throughout the greater Cleveland area, with two centers in some of Cleveland’s most under-served areas—Clark-Fulton and Brooklyn Centre.

These two brand new facilities feature up-to-date educational technology and incredible indoor and outdoor play areas, including gymnasiums, playgrounds, basketball courts, and even an indoor slide that takes riders from the second floor down to the first floor at their Brooklyn Centre site. Horizon’s centers also boast highly-qualified teachers, full nutrition services, and transportation in buses that are designed by Horizon’s students and are used to get students to and from the centers as well as for field trips.

As part of its philosophy to develop the whole child, Horizon is integrated with the schools and communities it serves. They value building relationships with families and hold monthly parent nights. The staff also works to connect parents to additional services that can support their child’s success.

In addition to the two new facilities that are open this fall, Horizon has its eye on a third Cleveland location, slated to open for the 2018-2019 school year in Jefferson, another underserved Cleveland neighborhood. The new center will be located on open land at RTA’s Triskett Rapid Station. The construction will mark the first new building in Jefferson in fourteen years.

Horizon Education Centers Market Square is a 3-Star Step Up To Quality rated center located in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood. Horizon Education Centers Brooklyn Centre is a 3-Star Step Up To Quality rated center located in the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.  The private centers both serve kids from eighteen months to fourteen years old Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in both full and part day programs, year round. Both sites still have a number of seats open for this fall with special scholarships for four-year-olds.
