Learning enriched by the arts: The Music Settlement has a play-based, child-centered, creative arts infused curriculum that provides students with weekly specials, including science, drama, and music, as a regular part of its program. The program, which has been in existence for more than sixty years, is supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated teachers who want the children to be excited to learn and discover.
“We’re all about discovering the world and the joy of learning,” says Karen Heitlinger, Chair of the Center for Early Childhood at The Music Settlement. One of the ways The Music Settlement accomplishes this is through the Early Learning Initiative with University Circle, Inc., which allows them to engage with the many cultural institutions that are in their neighborhood.
The Music Settlement staff is focused on partnering with parents to support individual child development and social-emotional growth and learning. In fact, parents and siblings can take advantage of learning opportunities of their own. The Music Settlement offers Music and Movement programs for infants and toddlers and music instruction and music therapy for all ages. The Center for Early Childhood at the Music Settlement also offers kindergarten in addition to its preschool classes.
The team at the Music Settlement has a lot on their plate right now because in the fall of 2018, a second location will be opening on the Near West Side. The new location, which is currently under construction at the corner of W. 25th and Detroit, will offer the same early childhood programming that the University Circle campus does.
Parents who are interested in learning more about The Music Settlement can visit tmskids.org and are encouraged to come to one of the upcoming Open Houses on January 17, 21, and 24.
The Music Settlement is a 5-Star rated preschool site in University Circle. It serves 3- to 5-year-olds Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and also offers half-day opportunities in the morning.
