When you see the PRE4CLE logo, you know that your child is learning in a safe and supportive environment, with well-trained, professional staff, and a research-based curriculum. PRE4CLE partners with programs that are rated at least three out of five stars by the state’s Step Up to Quality rating system.

WHY QUALITY MATTERS

Early experiences affect the architecture of a child’s brain, building a strong foundation for Cleveland’s kids. By the age of 5, your child’s brain is already 90% developed. Research shows that children who participate in high-quality early childhood programs are more likely to:

Have better-developed language and social skills when they get to kindergarten

Reach high school graduation.

Pursue college or vocational training programs, and have good careers as adults.

School readiness starts well before children enter the door to kindergarten. By enrolling your 3- or 4-year-old in a high-quality preschool program, you are providing them with the tools and fundamentals needed to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.

  • Talk, Read, Sing

A language rich environment is one in which children are surrounded by talking, singing, and reading and have many opportunities throughout their day, across all activities, to communicate with others and engage in back-and-forth conversations. Research shows that some young children are exposed to more language in their homes, early learning programs, and school settings, than other children. This difference in the number of words and back-and-forth conversations to which children are exposed is called the “word gap”. This document includes tips that you can use to help bridge the word gap by enriching the language environment of all young children in your care, including children who do not speak yet, children with disabilities or delays, and children who are learning more than one language.
