Libraries have always been essential partners in early childhood education. Over the past two years, PRE4CLE and Cleveland Public Library (CPL) have continued to strengthen our partnership to support preschool educators, families, and young children throughout Cleveland. Together, we have worked to connect providers with literacy resources, professional learning opportunities, and community events that encourage a love of reading from an early age.
In 2025, we partnered with CPL for their conference, Science of Reading: The Path to Book Joy. The Science of Reading conference provided professional development opportunities for library staff, community partners, and PRE4CLE preschool providers. Providers who joined gained access to current literacy research and practical classroom strategies, as well as connections with community partners. These kinds of opportunities help providers strengthen language and literacy instruction while connecting them with free community resources available through their local libraries and other community and literacy resources.
Community Outreach Together
Our partnership extends well beyond professional development. Throughout the years, PRE4CLE and Cleveland Public Library have regularly supported one another by participating in community outreach events, including:
- Family resource fairs
- Community festivals
- Preschool outreach events
- Enrollment events
- Literacy celebrations
By sharing space and resources, Cleveland families are introduced to both organizations in one place, making it easier to connect with preschool programs and literacy services.
